Today we went to a free concert at the world famous Kennedy Center. During the concert our kids started dancing which led to the performer, Jennifer Johns, asking where we were from which led to her speaking directly to us, which led to Ron getting called on stage.

Yesterday was a full day to say the least.
We started at 7:00 AM in “Southwest”, a neighborhood about a mile from Westminster. This neighborhood is mostly Section 8 housing, or “the projects”. We walked around the neighborhood with trash bags, rakes, shovels, and a WHOLE lot of water. We met members of the community and heard there stories. We saw the pride in their eyes as they talked about their community. We felt the power of a strong community.
After about 3 hours of work, Paul, the director of the King Greenleaf Community Center, let us take showers, boy did we need them, and fed us! The food was a surprise and served as an strong example of working with rather than working for.
After work the temperature was a little over 100 degrees, so we went back to Westminster and relaxed on the cool, tile floor in the sanctuary, and drank water. After a couple of hours, we decided to Fo what a lot of people in DC do to beat the heat, we went to the free and air conditioned Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. We spent a couple if hours there, then went back for dinner.
After dinner we had worship then our group walked to the FDR Memorial and talked about what we saw. We got back to the exhausted and joy filled. It was a full day. This morning we will help lead worship at Westminster and relax and recuperate as much as possible.
